Thanks to all the snowmakers! Get out and support you favorite resort and enjoy the conditions!
With last seasons winter snowfall amounts being above average there was a lot of excitement for this upcoming ski/snowboard season. October was a tease with below average temperatures and early snow. The early snowfall got our blood pumping even more, we were sure a big winter was to come. Then came November with December shortly followed by January and now we are into February with very few snowstorms to speak of.
This is a year that all skiers and snowboarders are extremely thankful for all the great work of the snowmaking teams for making it possible to hit the slopes. Most ski resorts in New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine are all 100% open right now or close to it due to the improvements in snowmaking technology and the commitment of the resorts to open. New England has a very unpredictable winter season and it can be very different year to year as we know. This year has obviously not been the best year as far as snow accumulation is concerned but it did allow us to test the snowmaking capabilities and its great to say that even if it doesn’t snow, there still will plenty of skiing to do!
It is hard to admit, but motivation to head to the slopes has been tough when I walk outside to a blue bird day and 50-degree temperatures here in Massachusetts. From experience I know that I cannot assume what conditions are like from looking out my window so I have sucked it up and made the trip up North. To my surprise I have not been disappointed by the conditions but yet surprised and shocked at how great they have been. I guess what I am trying to say is don’t let this mild winter weather get you down, the conditions are great and winter wont be along for much longer so get out and enjoy it truly is great and wont be around for too long.
I hope you all get a chance to head up to your favorite resort this season at least once to ski and support their efforts. Winter by no means is over we live in New England. I hope it snows all March and April, it has happened before.
See you on the slopes.
